Volkspark Humboldthain
Parks
Nr. 225 · Wedding
The Volkspark (people’s park) is a tourist attraction mainly because of the two Flak towers, that served as air defense canons during the Second World War. They also explain the height differences in the park, as one of the two towers was blown to pieces during the war and on its rubble the park shaped itself.
From the remaining Flak tower hill you have a magnificent view over Berlin. The remains of the tower itself are accessible through tours of Berliner Unterwelten (Berlin underground). But the rest of the park is worth a visit as well: Humboldthain is a mature park, including its own outdoor swimming pool and climbing wall (on the base of the towers) and in the summer months a beautiful rose garden (Rosengarten).
