Treptower Park
Looking for a spacious park that isn't too crowded? Without too many tourists? Along the river? Yes, it exists. You do have to cycle quite a distance or travel by S-Bahn to get there, although Treptower Park is located along the S-Bahn Ring. And the further you walk away from the S-Bahn station, the more beautiful and peaceful it becomes.
Treptower Park is not yet over-regulated; you can still fire up the barbecue at any random spot without too much trouble. Don't forget to cross the road to the Soviet War Memorial, the impressive memorial to the 80,000 Russian soldiers who fell during the liberation of Berlin.
The Haus Zingler has been renovated in the 2010s and shines again in its full glory, as a venue for concerts. The beer garden is huge and glorious. Opposite is the Insel der Jugend (youth island) with some nice greenery and another beer garden. If you continue towards the Spreepark at some point you will reach the renovated Eierhäuschen which also has a great beer garden on the water's edge.
