Modern architecture that is perfect and timeless from the inside and outside, is a rarity. Architect Hans Scharoun succeeded cum laude with the Kulturforum, where the Philharmonie is a part of.
The residential orchestra, the Philharmoniker directed by Simon Rattle, is world famous. But the building is almost as famous: from the outside the gold-coloured, apparently at random piled up blocks almost look like a creation of Frank Gehry. Inside there is not one symmetric element in the stands, which caters for exquisite acoustics.
