Güterbahnhof Pankow

Closed in 1997, the former freight station is still waiting for a new future. An investor wants to build a neighborhood and shopping center on the enormous site across the main road; the Güterbahnhof Pankow will likely be partially renovated into a school.

It would not be a bad solution. The Rundlokschuppen, the dominant round building at the entrance, is in any case a protected monument. Around 2020 it was already provisionally renovated. Further along stands another (semi-)circular and partially renovated building, featuring a magnificent turntable for wagons, which really should be preserved as well. Because of the renovations the site is not as easily accessible as before and is apparently permanently guarded, so proceed with caution.
