The former sport- and event location of the American army, that was based in the adjacent Tempelhof airport, became vacant in 1994. An entrepreneur took his chance and converted the Columbiahalle into a concert venue for up to 3000 people.

Just like the smaller C-Club on the same premises, this venue mainly focuses on rock, though bigger names from electronic music such as The Knife also tend to pay a visit. Not strange: the atmosphere is intimate because of the huge balcony, and the audience can entertain itself before the show in the biergarten.
