Kreuzberg has lost much if its anarchy, but Bethanien and surrounding areas are at least still a creative hub for artists. The former hospital was rescued from demolition a couple of decades ago, and has been refurbished into its former beauty.
It now hosts the excellent and expensive 3 Schwester restaurant, contains a music school but also still exhibition spaces for young and emerging artists. The exhibitions are usually free to visit and are a bit hit-and-miss when it’s about the quality. In summer they show movies in the garden during the evening.
500 metres away, close to Kottbusser Tor station, is the Künstlerhaus Bethanien. It also has exhibition spaces.
